British Alumni Club
The Club was established under the aegis of the British Council for people who studied, were trained or attended conferences in Britain through programmes of the British Council, UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Know-How Foundation. The British Alumni Club provides an effective communication system for programme alumni, British Council and British Embassy in Moscow.

British Council
The British Council is Britain's principal agency for cultural relations and public diplomacy. Its aim is to increase awareness of contemporary Britain amongst Russians. It operates in 11 centres across the country - Moscow, St Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Sochi, Yaroslavl, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk and Volgograd. The Council's approach is to develop partnerships between British and Russian organisations which result in mutual benefit. Activities include the arts, science, English language teaching and examinations as well as projects which support the Russian reform agenda in many key areas, and the management of scholarship programmes, assistance and advice for Russians wishing to study in the United Kingdom.

Britain-Russia Development Partnership (BRDP)
The British Government's Department for International Development (DFID) aids Russia's efforts to eliminate poverty by supporting actions that raise living standards and address the needs of the poorest members of society, and by helping to integrate Russia into the global economy. Areas of work include the reform of pensions and benefits, the development of civil society and independent media, better health provision, supporting the creation of new businesses and sustainable rural livelihoods, caring for the environment, and improving the ability of local and national governments to provide services to those most in need. DFID works through Russian and British staff in the Development Section of the British Embassy in Moscow and staff in the British Consulates in St. Petersburg and Ekaterinburg.

Charities Aid Foundation, Russian representative office
The CAF representative office in Moscow offers services in five areas:
  • Services for NGOs (free consultations on legal and financial issues, fundraising and institutional development; NGO training center, monthly meetings of clubs of NGO accountants and layers);
  • Services for donors (information on Russian charitable organizations, development and management of charitable programmes);
  • Grant programmes (provision of grants on behalf of international charitable funds, state agencies and commercial structures);
  • Developing new techniques of attracting funds to noncommercial sector (establishment of municipal charity foundations to collect and distribute charitable funds at the local level; implementation of the programmes to attract contributions from Russian nationals living abroad); and
  • Information service (library; magazine "Money and charity;" web-site in Russian and English).

    Charity Know How
    CKH is a grant making body that supports the nonprofit sector throughout Central and Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States (NIS). CKH supports developing partnerships and the exchange of skills and expertise between nonprofit organizations. By bringing together the Department for International Development, the Charities Aid Foundation, and a number of leading British Foundations and Trusts, the CKH provides opportunities for learning between organizations and across borders. Note the Contact Finder which encourages partnerships between organizations in Central and Eastern Europe, the NIS and the United Kingdom (UK) by providing advice and information to NGOs on all aspects of relationship building.

    ID21 Development Research
    "Information for Development in the 21st Century" is a reporting service compiling summaries of UK-based problem-solving research in critical development dilemmas around the world. Materials are drawn from over 40 UK research centres, conference papers, unpublished reports, research by aid and development agencies and pressure groups, and research consultants.

    Institute of Development Studies (IDS)
    The Institute contributes to the reduction of poverty and the creation of secure livelihoods by influencing policy and how it is applied. Activities include research on key development issues, teaching and training, effective information dissemination and knowledge sharing, and building and sustaining capacity in these areas in less developed countries.

    The International NGO Training and Research Centre (INTRAC)
    INTRAC, the International NGO Training and Research Centre, provides specially designed training, consultancy and research services to nongovernmental organisations involved in international development and relief. Our goal is to improve the performance of NGOs by exploring policy issues and by strengthening management and organizational effectiveness.
