"JI" (Joint Implementation) and "AIJ" (Activities Implemented Jointly) describe arrangements between interests in two or more countries, leading to the implementation of cooperative development projects that reduce or sequester greenhouse gas emissions. Concepts of joint activity were introduced during negotiations leading to the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, and became a part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
