The American Councils for International Education The American Councils is a not for profit education, training, and consulting organization, specializing in the countries of eastern Europe, Russia, and Eurasia. American Councils programs include academic exchange, professional training, institution building, research, materials development, technical assistance, and consulting. www.aaas.org/international/eca/eca.htm Europe and Central Asia Program (ECA) of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS) The Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Program coordinates international activities in Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. Its activities promote the development of democratic and open scientific structures in the newly independent states of the former Soviet Union and enhance international scientific cooperation in areas of common interest. Projects are developed by national and international scientific organizations in cooperation with institutions in Europe and Central Asia. It convenes seminars, workshops, symposia, and conferences, and sponsors occasional fellowship programs for scientists. The program houses the AAAS Consortium of Affiliates for International Programs. www.ned.org The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) The National Endowment for Democracy is a private, nonprofit US organization which strengthens democratic institutions around the world through nongovernmental efforts. With annual funds appropriated by the US Congress, NED support pro-democracy groups in the former Soviet Union and Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. |
