EMERCOM, FEMA, USAID Plan Disaster Response Table Top Exercise

On September 24, representatives of USAID/Russia and the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM) in Moscow linked up with FEMA officials in Washington, DC via video conference to review plans for a joint table top exercise (TTX) in June 2010. The TTX will be conducted outside Moscow and offer an opportunity to compare and contrast U.S. and Russian response systems to an international disaster response scenario. On the U.S. side, the TTX scenario will combine elements of both FEMA's expertise in domestic emergency management and USAID's system for responding and deploying internationally. USAID/Russia also briefed the meeting attendees on upcoming activities under the bilateral work plan, including: a seminar in Moscow this fall on Disaster Response/Food Aid; travel of disaster response experts to a mid-planning conference in Moscow in December; a visit by EMERCOM staff to the U.S. in April 2010; and a third country training event in the fall of 2010.
