The USAID-funded "Our Rights" project organized a Legal Education Week in Khabarovsk Kray from September 28 to October 3. Co-sponsored by the Human Rights Representative and the Department of Information of Khabarovsk Kray, the campaign aimed to raise awareness among local citizens' about their civic, economic, social and other rights. Throughout the week, Management Systems International and its local partners conducted workshops, public lectures, film screenings and other high-profile events focused on rights protection in the areas of local self-governance, education, health services, social protection and entrepreneurship. Free legal consultations were provided for adults, while games and contests on rights issues were organized for university and high school students. Many activities were conducted in small towns and villages around the region. In total, 14 NGOs organized 90 events that reached over 16,000 citizens. The main local television station, First Krai TV, supported the campaign by broadcasting information about it on a daily basis and interviewing NGO leaders and human rights experts on issues such as housing and communal services, the rights of senior citizens and vulnerable groups, the military draft, and the environment.
