The British Alumni Club provides an effective communication system for programme alumni, British Council and British Embassy in Moscow. www.britishcouncil.ru British Council The British Council is Britain's principal agency for cultural relations and public diplomacy. Its aim is to increase awareness of contemporary Britain amongst Russians. It operates in 11 centres across the country - Moscow, St Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Sochi, Yaroslavl, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk and Volgograd. The Council's approach is to develop partnerships between British and Russian organisations which result in mutual benefit. Activities include the arts, science, English language teaching and examinations as well as projects which support the Russian reform agenda in many key areas, and the management of scholarship programmes, assistance and advice for Russians wishing to study in the United Kingdom. www.dfid.gov.uk www.britemb.msk.ru/index.htm Britain-Russia Development Partnership (BRDP) The British Government's Department for International Development (DFID) aids Russia's efforts to eliminate poverty by supporting actions that raise living standards and address the needs of the poorest members of society, and by helping to integrate Russia into the global economy. Areas of work include the reform of pensions and benefits, the development of civil society and independent media, better health provision, supporting the creation of new businesses and sustainable rural livelihoods, caring for the environment, and improving the ability of local and national governments to provide services to those most in need. CKH supports developing partnerships and the exchange of skills and expertise between nonprofit organizations. By bringing together the Department for International Development, the Charities Aid Foundation, and a number of leading British Foundations and Trusts, the CKH provides opportunities for learning between organizations and across borders.
